We have recently completed a façade mounted solar panel installation in Macclesfield on a brick gable end wall for a couple who wanted to maximise their solar exposure but didn’t have any more space on their roof.
They already had panels on the west side of their house but these didn’t perform as well as they wanted in the winter as the established trees blocked the sunlight, so we identified a wall mounted solution on the south facing gable end as a possibility.
We were happy to assist them in coming up with an efficient and aesthetically pleasing solution that captured the sun throughout the day in summer and winter.
Depending on the orientation of your home, certain walls may receive more sunlight than the roof, making them prime locations for solar panels. In this case, the side of the house provided the perfect space to accommodate a façade mounted system. In winter when the sun is lower in the sky, wall mounted panels receive more direct sunlight than angled panels on a roof and so harness more power than roof mounted panels would at this time of the year.
For this installation we fitted nine Aiko Neostar 2S 460 Watt panels and mounted them on K2 Multirail facade mounting system. These panels were connected to a Myenergi Libbi 5kW inverter with 10kWh of battery storage. They will generate 2160kWh of energy in a typical year with a 6 year payback for our customer.
Another benefit of wall mounted solar panels is that vertical solar panels are less prone to dirt accumulation compared to rooftop installations, which can help maintain their efficiency over time.
