Here is another example of our solar panel installation work on Chelford Road in Macclesfield, where we installed two solar panel arrays on different south facing roofs on the same house.
As the slate roof was in good condition, we installed the solar panels above the existing slate roof instead of removing the original slates and installing them in the roof.
When the roof covering is in good condition, it is often better to leave the original roof alone and fit the panels above it. This is a more common way of installing solar panels on newer properties but is equaly suitable for older properties too.
This two-storey house had several roof faces, and the customer chose to use the two front facing sides of the roof for the solar panel installation. We installed nine panels on the larger roof and six panels on the smaller roof and between them, these JA Solar 440 Watt all black solar panels will produce 3100 kWh of green electricity during a typical year.
Some of the solar electricity will be used directly in the house during the day and once the demand from the house has been fulfilled, the excess electricity will be stored in the Enphase IQ5P 5kWh AC connected battery storage system, which has been installed on a sheltered outside wall.
Once the battery has been fully charged, any further solar electricity will be exported back to the electricity grid and the stored electricity in the battery will be available for use in the house later in the day when the sun starts to set and the owners come home from work.
