As well as installing new solar panels, we are also asked to remove and replace existing solar panels from a house when it is undergoing renovation.
On this lovely rural house near Congleton, there were some older solar panels that the owner needed to remove so that they could repair their roof whilst they were renovating the house.
Whilst it would have been possible to replace the original panels once the roof had been repaired, our customer chose to fit new, higher power panels as they wanted to make sure they would be future proofed and with the new JA Solar 440 Watt all black panels that we fitted they will have a 25 year product guarantee and a 30 year performance guarantee.
Once we had carefully removed the original panels, the roof was cleaned and repaired so that we could safely access the original solar panel hooks which we used to mount the new rails.
The original installation had 14 solar panels and we replaced these older panels with 8 new panels to achieve the same power output. These panels were fitted with Enphase micro-inverters which also have a 25 year guarantee and this freed up space in the utility room where the original string inverter was located. In the space freed up by this, we were able to install the Enphase IQ5P 5kWh AC connected battery storage system.
Once we had completed the panel replacement, our customer decided to ask us to install a further six JA Solar panels in the roof of the main house and these were also installed with Enphase micro-inverters which were fitted to the GSE in-roof trays before the solar panels were fitted.
The solar panels are expected to produce 5400kWh of electricity in a typical year and this will nearly meet the current annual consumption of the house, making them virtually energy independent from the electricity grid.
