As we head through the winter months, here are a few simple tips to help you get the most from your system:
• Keep panels clear – If it’s safe to do so, check panels are free from heavy dirt, moss, or debris to maximise winter daylight capture. If they are dirty, get in touch as we’d be happy to provide a cleaning service.
During snowfall, panels may be temporarily covered, but the treated glass usually clears itself as temperatures rise.
• Use energy wisely during the day – Running appliances during daylight hours helps use more of your own solar energy directly. This works particularly well for homes that generate surplus electricity which would otherwise be exported to the grid. If you don’t usually have surplus solar energy, consider using high-consumption appliances such as washing machines or dishwashers at night when electricity rates are cheaper on off-peak or smart tariffs.
Are You Being Paid for Your Exported Energy?
Many customers aren’t aware that they may be eligible to be paid for electricity exported back to the grid through an export tariff.
It’s worth checking:
• That you’re signed up to an export tariff • That your export meter is correctly registered • That your payments reflect what your system is exporting
